Spooky Little Bat Pattern

Notes:

Make bats of various sizes by using different hooks and weights of yarn. The bats on the fence above were made using two strands of worsted weight yarn and a 15mm hook, and the bats on the pillow below were made with one strand of worsted weight yarn and a 9mm hook.

Picot: Ch 3, sl in 3rd ch from hook

Here's a video of how to do the double crochet chainless foundation if you want to give that a try:

Head and Ears

  1. Make a magic ring.

  2. Ch 2, 8 dc in ring, sl to first dc.

  3. *Into the next dc (sl, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, sl)**, sl in next dc, repeat * to **, finish off.

Body and Wings

  1. Make a dc chainless foundation with 13 dc, ch 3, turn. Alternatively, you could begin by chaining 16, then start making dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and all the way across.

  2. 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in each of next 4 dc, ch 2, turn.

  3. 1 dc in first dc, picot, (1 dc, 1 hdc) in next dc, *1 sc in next dc, (1 hdc, 1 dc, picot) in next dc, (1 dc, 1 hdc) in next dc**, repeat * to ** all the way across, finish off.

Sew or glue the head to the body, and you have yourself a cute little bat friend for Halloween. Use your bats to decorate and show me how it turns out!
